It’s 9am on a Monday morning and that annoying alarm sound goes off as usual to make you alert for the day. That alarm sound may not be ideal, but you know your morning playlist is there to fix it. So let’s get into it! What exactly is on this “Morning Playlist”? Do you have multiple depending on the day or mood? If you don’t have one yet, let’s see if any of the songs below influence you to try it out. I want to share a few selections from my personal AM playlist below and how they contribute to my overall mindset for the day.

My morning playlist is a nice mix of songs that list multiple affirmations with a hint of Sunday bottomless brunch vibes; to keep you energized as you start your day. The first song I will highlight is Very Special by Chris Brown. This song was included on his last album 11:11. The simplicity of the lyrics as well as the chill upbeat house sound is perfect to get me through my bathroom routine. Whether you put yourself in the artists’ shoes or the fan’s while listening, you are consistently hearing the phrase “very special, let me love you love”. The phrase plus seeing my reflection in the mirror, to me, is my unique version of self-love. It also brought joy discovering another artist I enjoy, Elliot Trent, assisted with writing and producing the fun track. I may be just a little bias because it’s my favorite artists’ song, but it’s one I highly recommend.

I almost always keep shuffle on when I’m listing to a playlist I’ve curated. I say this to express how well my phone seems to know me. Right after a chill song ends, it knows to shuffle to something with more bass and bounce to get my energy all the way up. Mozzarella by Yung Gravy and Lil Keed is a song on my playlist, that does just that. With a beat produced by wide know producer D.A. Got That Dope, you already know the song will have you “doing your little dance”. As soon as the bass from the first beat drops; stank face activates and the shoulders are quick to follow. The topic throughout the song is about money. Money doesn’t rule my world, but listening to lyrics that detail the luxuries of what it can be spent on does motivate me to work for them. In my opinion, I love how playful the beat is to dance to. Clothes and coffee are usually completed as my playlist shuffles through multiple songs that produce a similar feeling.

One last song I want to recommend is Stop Playing by Glorilla. This song has easily become a favorite of mine from her recent album GLORIOUS. Lyrics as well as the beat both play parts in why my ears were instantly attracted to it. Yo Gotti, Timbaland, and members of Bounce House Beats (SkipOnDaBeat, Sakii, and Satori) all came together on to produce the final project. Even though the song itself has a calm tone, the tempo/placement of the hi-hat sound draws in you to bob your head and focus in on what Glo is rapping about. As I mentioned in the beginning, this playlist is all about affirmations to add positivity to your day. There’s no better way to do this for yourself, than by self-reflection and testimony. From beginning to end we get a glimpse into Glorilla’s vulnerable side of where she started; to her now influence and growth within the music industry. Cliché as it may be, hearing success of someone who use to have the same everyday trials as yourself is indeed inspirational. Also having that go-getter personality, I do put myself in the artist’s viewpoint and recite the lyrics with a purpose. Again, affirming to myself that even though I’m starting or feeling low; I do possess the traits and work ethic to achieve my goals. As the song suggests, “Man, stop playin’ with that girl”. Let’s officially start our day!

As you can see, I sincerely hold music dear to my soul because of the emotions it allows me to express. Listeners will also discover my music taste is not at all genre specific; and I do have a couple of playlists reflecting that characteristic. I hope this article sparks feelings in others to tap into their own vulnerability when it comes to the music we listen to. Whether it’s about the lyrics, beat, or neither; I highly encourage you to add a “Morning Playlist”, to your music collection. I guarantee personal mental awareness and positivity will increase while your diverse track list grows with you.
