Across all of my social media platforms and within my daily conversation with peers, I hear the same rhetoric. “Music nowadays is Trash!” As a passionate music advocate, I find this statement very bias and honestly disappointing. It poses my main question to the audience, “What are you listening to?” My initial purpose with creating this website is to change that perspective for some and challenge others to broaden their current music catalog.
My love for music goes all the way back to my childhood as a young black girl; living in a small rural area in Northeast Missouri. Music has always been my safe place and my favorite way to express any emotions I could not put into words. Whether it was participating in church choir, or discovering music from parents and friends; there was always a beat in my head. Those multiple channels also influenced my eclectic taste in music and gave me the push to curate playlists for others to discover in present day. I listen to variety of genres and aspire to put my own mark in music with producing a new unique sound that’s unlike anything we’ve heard before. I’m in LA focusing to make this dream into a reality.
With the platform I intend to build, I want to use it to promote and support other minority individuals like myself in other industries. Being in a major city that’s known for dream chasing has allowed me to discover so many of these business in various unique ways. Going to events, catching a IG reel or TikTok post, and even the traditional word of mouth has influenced my interest and aid to each discovery. A personal favorite I’d like to mention is Black Market Flea. Although, I have not recently attended the market like I routinely did, it’s a prime example of showcasing Black and minority excellence in a safe space for the masses to enjoy. Highlighting these business will be a major component in the mission and overall growth of Tab Productions.
In the weeks to come, you can expect to see more blog posts that I invite my audience to engage in with me and others that comment as well. Eventually, I will allow my vulnerability to peek through even more by uploading beats I produce and other fun content that relate to the values of Tab Productions described above. Currently on the site, you’ll have access to playlists I curate that can also be found on Spotify and Apple Music. You’ll also have access to exclusive merchandise that is anime inspired; mixed with my own colorful creativity.
This is only the beginning for Tab Productions and I’m overly excited to share more as we grow. With audience assistance, community engagement, and persistence I know this vision is attainable. Authenticity is key for my success and I hope the brand impacts others to do the same.
